Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

Enki Journal for Humanities and Social Sciences operates a double-blind peer review system: reviewers do not know the identity of the author, and authors do not know the identity of the reviewers. All stages are managed through the OJS platform.

Stages of Review

  1. Receipt: Authors are notified that their submission has been received within two weeks of receipt at the latest.
  2. Initial screening: The editorial team checks that the submission fits the journal's scope and meets the publication requirements and author guidelines, and screens it for plagiarism using Turnitin. A submission may be returned to the author to complete missing elements, or declined at this stage.
  3. Peer review: After identifying information has been removed, the submission is sent to at least two subject-specialist reviewers. Reviewers are expected to complete their evaluation within ten days of receiving the manuscript, in accordance with the Reviewer Guide published on the website.
  4. Decision: The decision is based on the reviewers' reports and is one of the following: accept, accept with minor revisions, accept with major revisions, or reject. The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief in consultation with the editorial board.
  5. Revisions: Authors receive the reviewers' comments and are expected to make the requested revisions, giving a scholarly justification where they disagree with a comment. A revised manuscript may be returned to the same reviewer or to a different one when necessary.
  6. Publication: Authors of accepted submissions are notified of the editorial board's approval and of the expected publication date.

Confidentiality and Integrity

Submissions are treated as confidential documents throughout the review. Reviewers do not contact authors directly; all comments are routed through the editorial office. Reviewers must disclose any conflict of interest and decline to review where one exists, as set out in the Reviewer Guide and the journal's COPE-based ethics policy.

Submissions by Editorial Members

Submissions from the Editor-in-Chief, the Managing Editor, or members of the editorial and advisory boards are handled under the separate procedures set out on the page "Submissions by Editors and Editorial Board Members".

Appeals

Authors may appeal an editorial decision by sending a reasoned request to [email protected]. The appeal is considered and answered in writing by the Editor-in-Chief or a delegate who was not involved in the original handling of the submission.
