This research examines the phenomenon of Political Islam as one of the most complex and widespread intellectual and political dynamics in the contemporary Arab and Islamic worlds. The study aims to trace the historical and ideological roots of these movements، highlighting the scholarly debate regarding their origins. Views range from linking them to the foundational era of Islam—reflecting the structural nexus between religion and state—to associating them with the reformist pioneers، modern shifts، or the fall of the Ottoman Caliphate. Furthermore، the paper outlines the core structural and intellectual characteristics of these movements، notably comprehensiveness (Shumuliyyah)، the pursuit of statehood، rejectionism، and their capacity for fission and rapid popular mobilization. Finally، the study analyzes the strategic trends adopted by these groups، classifying them based on their methods of change into peaceful-reformist movements that accept democratic participation and the peaceful rotation of power، and violent-jihadist movements that employ excommunication (Takfir) to subvert existing regimes. The research concludes that navigating globalization and regional geopolitical shifts has compelled most movements to undergo ideological revisions، shifting from confrontation to pragmatic political participation.
