This study develops a conceptual and theoretical model for international economic relations in conflict and post-conflict countries. It explains the interdependence between international economic relations and post-conflict conditions, as these countries often emerge from conflict with political and economic collapse and need to restore their international economic relations in order to achieve domestic economic development. Peacebuilding in the post-conflict phase is closely linked to economic recovery and to the regional environment surrounding the state.
The study finds that regional roles and their effects in post-conflict countries vary according to the nature of regional powers, their geostrategic positions, and their economic and political capabilities. They also depend on the strategic position of conflict-affected countries and the resources they possess, which may encourage regional powers to strengthen economic relations with them. Accordingly, regional actors may exercise either conflictual or cooperative roles in line with their regional interests.
