Abstract

This study examines Iraq’s position on the Palestinian cause from 1920 to 2024 by tracing the main forms of political, diplomatic, military, and humanitarian support provided by Iraq across different historical stages. The study is based on the assumption that the Iraqi position, despite changes in political regimes and shifting internal and regional conditions, generally remained aligned with the justice of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people’s right to liberation and statehood. Using a historical-analytical approach, the paper follows the evolution of this position from the monarchical era through the republican period and the post-2003 stage up to the context of Al-Aqsa Flood. The study concludes that Iraq maintained a visible commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause, although the nature and level of this support varied according to domestic transformations and regional and international balances. It also shows that popular solidarity remained a key pillar in sustaining this position even when official instruments of influence declined.
